My process featuring Larry Fitzgerald

I have been asked by a few people lately how I create my illustrations. Without giving away the whole of it, here is a quick and dirty run through of my process using my illustration of the Arizona Cardinals’ Wide Receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

I start by creating the linework that will ultimately define the illustration:

I then add the basic colors of the illustration:

Now to make it not so ‘clip art – y’ I add the shadows and highlights:

Finally, I add any finishing touches/last details necessary to really bring the illustration together:

After anywhere between 2 and 12 hours of work I finally come up with a finalized illustration that’s ready to be shown to the world. So to you world, I say…enjoy.
